JAS has been providing engineering services to Crystal Mountain Resort (CMR) since 2010 for domestic wastewater and potable water system improvements.  CMR was planning a wastewater treatment plant improvement project in 2010 to address treatment deficiencies and associated negative perceptions in the surrounding community.  A particular treatment method had been previously proposed by other engineers and approved by the overseeing state agency, however the owner desired a second opinion to consider options to that proposed method.  JAS was retained in 2010 to consider using an extended aeration plant with a defined nitrogen removal option.  JAS completed a wastewater facility plan amendment for the new option, which was approved by the overseeing state agency.  JAS completed the design of the new treatment plant in 2012 and the new wastewater treatment plant was constructed in 2012 through 2013.  JAS provided construction inspection services and construction phase engineering assistance throughout the treatment plant construction.  The cost of the extended aeration plant with nitrogen removal was more than $3,000,000 less than the system that was originally proposed by the other engineer.  The plant has been operating successfully since 2013.

JAS completed a wastewater treatment headworks facility design in 2019.  The headworks facility was included in the updated wastewater facility plan for improving treatment plant efficacy.  The headworks facility includes a spiral fine screen, wastewater flow measurement, and an odor control air handling unit.  The headworks facility construction was completed in 2019.  JAS provided construction inspection services and construction phase engineering assistance throughout the headworks construction.  The new headworks facility has been operating successfully since January 2020.

A 200,000 gallon coated steel potable water storage tank owned by CMR was destroyed by a slope failure above the tank in 2015.  CMR retained JAS in 2016 to provide engineering services for replacing the damaged tank.  JAS completed a project report for the water storage tank replacement to address system-wide storage issues as well as potable water treatment disinfection concerns.  The project report was approved by the overseeing agency and JAS completed the design for a 265,000 gallon steel water storage tank in 2019.  Storage tank construction was completed in completed in 2019 and JAS provided construction inspection services and construction phase engineering assistance.

In accordance with their approved water system plan, in 2017 CMR was working on restoring an existing raw water source that had been damaged by falling materials.  JAS was retained to engineer a replacement for the damaged existing raw water intake diversion structure and a new raw water intake pipeline.  The new pipeline extends from the new diversion structure down to the water treatment plant.  JAS completed the project report and intake design in 2021.  The project was constructed in 2021.  JAS completed construction inspection services and construction phase engineering assistance.

JAS has assisted CMR with questions or concerns related to wastewater treatment plant operation, wastewater disposal, facility expansion concerns, potable water treatment issues, and other civil infrastructure concerns as they arose over the last 12 years.
